Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cans cherry pie filling 21 ounces each
  • ½ cup tart cherry juice see notes
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract optional
  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 ounces
  • 10 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
  • ¼ cup almonds optional, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Spray (1) 9x13-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray. Add the cherry pie filling, tart cherry juice, and almond extract to the pan, stirring to combine.
  3. Sprinkle the cake mix in an even layer over the cherry mixture. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cake mix. Sprinkle the almonds on top.
  4. Bake for 1 hour, until the top is golden. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • I prefer to buy the “extra fruit” pie filling when available.
  • If you don’t have tart cherry juice, you could use maraschino cherry juice, cranberry juice, or even water.
