Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 ½ cups canola oil or any neutral oil
  • ¼ cup chili flakes or regular chili flakes, Sichuan
  • 1 tablespoon Sichuan peppercorn ground
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five spice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add your oil. Allow the oil to heat up a few minutes.
  2. Add in your chili flakes, Sichuan peppercorns, Chinese five spice, salt, and sesame seeds. Stir to combine.
  3. Once everything has mixed together reduce the heat to low and keep the mixture simmering for at least 30 minutes. You can keep cooking it for up to an hour.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the oil to cool to room temperature.
  5. Using a funnel, pour the oil into an airtight jar or container. Store it at room temperature for up to 1 month.

Notes

  • I recommend simmering the oil for an hour, it will produce a fuller flavor
