Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars bake classic chocolate chip cookie dough in a pan for a chewy, dense texture. The dough incorporates both light brown and granulated sugars, along with melted butter, vanilla, and semisweet chocolate chips distributed inside and on top. Baking at a moderate temperature produces bars with a tender crumb and gooey pockets of melted chocolate chips.

Description

This recipe transforms traditional chocolate chip cookie dough into bars by combining melted and cooled butter with sugars, eggs, vanilla, and flour with baking soda and salt. Half of the semisweet chocolate chips are folded into the dough, while the rest are pressed on top before baking in a foil-lined pan with edges extending for easy removal. Baked at 325°F for 25-30 minutes, the bars cool to a sturdy but tender texture, balancing a slightly crisp surface with moist center.

These bars deliver chocolate chip cookie flavor in an easy, sliceable form. The foil lining with handles aids in lifting the bar from the pan for straightforward cutting and serving. The dual use of chocolate chips ensures chunks throughout and a visually appealing chocolate topping.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ cup butter melted and cooled slightly, unsalted
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 egg large, yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract pure
  • 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips divided use

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Line (1) 9x13 inch baking pan with foil, leaving about 1 inch of the foil extending over the edges of the pan. The extra foil will create handles that you can use to lift the bars from the pan. Set pan aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together the melted and cooled butter and sugars. Stir in the egg and egg yolk and vanilla until smooth. Add the flour mixture, stirring until no dry bits remain. Fold in 1 cup of the semisweet chocolate chips.
  4. Turn cookie dough into prepared pan and use a spatula or clean hands to spread the dough into an even layer. Evenly distribute remaining chocolate chips on top and press them gently into the cookie dough.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Allow bars to cool before serving.
