This Chocolate Martini is the ultimate cocktail for all chocolate lovers. Made with Amarula Vanilla Spice, vodka and chocolate liqueur or syrup, it’s boozy, smooth, subtly sweet and totally seductive. Consider serving this chocolate cocktail instead of dessert at your next dinner party!

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

  • 150 g /3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 120 ml / 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Chocolate Martini

  • 120 ml / 1/2 cup Amarula Vanilla Spice
  • 80 ml / 1/3 cup vodka
  • 60 ml / 1/4 cup Chocolate liqueur or chocolate syrup
  • Cocoa powder to rim the glass optional
  • Chocolate syrup to decorate glass optional
  • chocolate bar grated to garnish

Instructions

  1. Chocolate Syrup (optional)
  2. Combine sugar, cocoa powder and salt in a saucepan. Stir to combine using a small balloon whisk.
  3. Pour water and stir to combine. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for two minutes, stirring.
  4. Strain into a clean jar and cool completely before using. The chocolate syrup will become thicker as it cools. You can keep it for up to a month or longer in the fridge and use it in cocktails, over ice cream or in milkshakes and desserts.
  5. Chocolate Martini
  6. Pour a little chocolate syrup (or use pasteurised egg whiteinto a small plate and the cocoa powder into another. Dip the martini glass into the syrup and then into the cocoa powder to frost the glass. Set aside.
  7. Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the Amarula Vanilla Spice, vodka and chocolate liqueur or chocolate syrup. Shake hard for 30 seconds.
  8. Strain into your prepared martini glasses and garnish with some fresh chocolate shavings. Drink immediately!

Notes

  • Chocolate Martini VariationsSalted Caramel Martini: drizzle the ice-cold glass with salted caramel before pouring the cocktail into it and replace vodka with salted caramel vodka.Mint Chocolate Martini: Add a couple of drops of peppermint essence (used in baking) or 1 tsp Creme de Mente. Garnish with mint leaves.
