Classic Spanish Churro Dessert

Churros are one of my favorite Spanish desserts. Made with some simple pantry items, they taste like cinnamon donuts!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg large
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter diced, unsalted
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Add butter, sugar, water, and salt to a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Bring it to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and add flour, stirring constantly with a spatula until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Add vanilla and egg. Blend using an electric hand mixer. Beat until smooth.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a large piping bag fitted with a rounded star tip.
  7. Heat about 2-inch vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat to 350 F degrees.
  8. Pipe the mixture into the oil, and cut end with kitchen scissors.
  9. Fry about 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Transfer a plate lined with paper towels.
  10. Coat with cinnamon sugar. Serve and enjoy!
