DIY Vinegar Fruit Wash
Description
The vinegar fruit wash involves placing fresh berries in a large bowl with four cups of water and one cup of white vinegar. The berries soak in this mixture for five minutes. This method helps to reduce pesticide residues, remove dirt, and inhibit bacteria and mold spores on the fruit surface.
After soaking, the berries are removed from the solution and rinsed thoroughly under running cold water to remove any vinegar residue. This step is important to avoid a persistent vinegar taste. The cleaned berries are then dried by either spreading them on a paper towel-lined sheet pan or gently patting them dry with paper towels to prevent moisture buildup which can cause spoilage.
This wash is especially practical for berries, which can hold surface contaminants in their crevices. Using a white vinegar rinse is a simple, natural way to clean them before eating or storing.
