How to Freeze Green Onions
Description
Freezing green onions starts with rinsing and trimming off the roots and tops. They are patted dry and then sliced either into rounds or angled cuts, or left whole cut to container length for flexibility in use. The prepared onions are placed in freezer-safe containers or bags. After 2 to 3 hours in the freezer, stirring the onions breaks up any ice formation and stops them from freezing solid in a block, ensuring easy portioning later. This technique maintains the texture and makes green onions convenient to add to dishes right from the freezer.
Ingredients
- green onions as much or as little as you want
Instructions
- Rinse your green onions and trim the top and the roots off.
- Pat dry the green onions.
- Slice the green onions into rounds or angled cuts. Alternatively, cut the green onions the same length as your container if you want to use them unsliced.
- Transfer them to a freezer safe containers or small freezer bags and then freeze.
- After 2-3 hours, give the sliced green onions a stir in the container so that they’re loose and aren’t frozen in a large block. Return to the freezer until ready for use.
