Doctored Brownie Mix Recipe
Description
This recipe improves upon standard boxed brownies by mixing in extra dark cocoa powder and replacing the water called for on the package with cooled brewed coffee. The coffee intensifies the chocolate flavor without altering texture. Vanilla extract provides aromatic sweetness.
Dark chocolate chips folded into the batter create pockets of melted chocolate throughout, contributing to fudgy bites. An optional pinch of sea salt balances the sweetness and highlights the chocolate depth. Baking is done according to box directions for smaller pan sizes, ensuring the brownies set properly with a moist interior and slightly crisp edges.
Cooling the brownies completely before slicing prevents crumbling and allows flavors to develop fully. This simple adjustment to a box mix yields a more sophisticated dessert without requiring extra time or difficult steps.
Ingredients
- 1 brownie mix plus ingredients called for on box, replacing any water called for with cooled coffee in the same amount, 13x9 size package, family size
- 1-2 TBSP dark chocolate cocoa powder Other cocoa powders will work as well, Hershey's brand
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp salt optional, sea salt
Instructions
- Pour dry brownie mix into a large bowl. Add in cocoa powder and mix until combined. Prepare brownies as directed on the box, replacing the water with coffee, and adding in vanilla, dark chocolate chips and sea salt.
