Easy Cream Puff Recipe

This homemade Cream Puffs recipe is so easy to make, and doesn't require an apprenticeship in a French bakery, though it certainly tastes like it. Cream Puffs are a classic French dessert. This scrumptious cream puff recipe makes light and airy pastry puffs filled with sweet pastry cream.

Ingredients

Servings

Choux Pastry

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 2 bricks (8 oz) cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipping cream whipped
  • 2 bananas, sliced

Ganache Topping

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate melted
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

Cream Puff Pastry

  1. Bring water and butter to boil in saucepan.
  2. Add flour and salt; stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms ball.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Drop ten ½ cupfuls of dough on lightly greased cookie sheet to form 9-inch ring.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees, 50 to 55 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from cookie sheet immediately with spatula and place on rack.
  8. Cool.

Banana Cream Cheese Filling

  1. Combine cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and vanilla, mixing until well blended.
  2. Reserve ½ cup cream cheese mixture; fold whipped cream and bananas into remaining mixture. Chill.
  3. Carefully cut top from each puff; fill with whipped cream mixture. Replace top.

Chocolate Ganache Topping

  1. Add remaining sugar, melted chocolate and milk to cream cheese mixture; mix well.
  2. Spread over the top of each puff.

Notes

  • Use a small spatula to push the dough off the spoon and onto the baking tray so the puffs stay round.
  • Use a serrated knife to cut the puffs in half.
  • Do not fill cream puffs until they are completely cooled.
