Easy Mongolian Beef

Authentic Mongolian Beef recipe made healthy. It's very easy to prepare and takes only about 5 minutes to cook and 20 minutes to marinate the steak.

For The Marinade

  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Pinch freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced

For The Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

For The Stir-Fry

  • 1-inch piece ginger, peeled and julienned
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 scallion, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 Tablespoon peanut oil

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle the cornstarch, salt, and pepper over the beef and toss to combine. Marinate at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, prepare the sauce by mixing together the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and rice vinegar.
  3. In a wok over medium-high heat, heat the peanut oil. 
  4. Add the beef and fry just until the surfaces turn brown.
  5. Add the ginger and garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant, 2 or 3 seconds. 
  6. Add the sauce and stir to coat the beef. 
  7. Turn off the heat and add the scallions. Give it one last stir to very lightly heat up the scallions but not to cook them.
  8. Transfer the dish to a serving plate.

Notes

  •  
  • Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavors.
  • Take care not to overcook the beef. You just want to brown it, if you overcook it it can get tough.
  • To make your beef easier to slice, you can freeze it for 10 minutes.
  • If you like your Mongolian beef spicy, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce. you can also add a few dried red chiles when stir-frying the beef.
