French Apple Cobbler
Description
The filling for this French Apple Cobbler consists of peeled, cored, and sliced apples mixed with granulated sugar, flour for thickening, cinnamon for warmth, salt, vanilla extract, a small amount of water, and a pat of butter. These ingredients together create a syrupy, flavorful base when baked.
The topping is made from flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, and a beaten egg. It creates dollops of moist dough placed over the apples rather than a smooth crust, which bake to a lightly golden finish that complements the tender, bubbling fruit below.
Baking in a greased 9-inch pie plate at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes results in a cobbler with soft, juicy apples and a sweet, lightly crispy topping. Serving it warm, topped with vanilla ice cream, adds contrast and creaminess that pairs well with the apple spices.
