Fresh Basil Lemonade
Description
Fresh Basil Lemonade combines lemon juice and water with maple syrup to balance tartness with natural sugar. Adding minced fresh basil leaves provides an aromatic, herbal flavor that differentiates it from traditional lemonades. Blending the ingredients until the basil is fully broken down creates a well-infused, smooth drink.
The lemonade is served chilled over ice for a refreshing experience. Alternatively, shaking the ingredients and refrigerating overnight can deepen the basil infusion, though in this method, the basil leaves should be removed before serving. Variations include substituting honey for maple syrup, adjusting sweetness accordingly.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup lemon juice freshly squeezed
- 2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 4 basil roughly 1 tablespoon minced, fresh leaves
Instructions
- Combine the lemon juice, water, maple syrup, and basil leaves in a blender, and blend until the basil is completely broken down. No need to strain! (If your basil leaves are particularly large, start with just 2 leaves, and add more to taste.)
- Serve over ice right away, or store it in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Notes
- For a more intense basil flavor, shake the ingredients and refrigerate overnight, removing basil leaves before serving over ice.
- Maple syrup can be replaced with honey, using slightly less honey due to its higher sweetness.
