Frosted sugar cookie bars are a tasty treat that cuts down on prep time so that’s there’s more time for eating! Soft cookies with pillowy perfect icing.

Ingredients
For the Cookies
- 3 ¼ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup PLAIN yogurt see note for substitutions
For the Icing
- ½ cup butter softened
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- 2 tablespoons cream
- 3 drops red food coloing optional
Instructions
For the Cookies
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
- Sift dry ingredients together, set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugar.
- Add egg and vanilla, mix well.
- Add yogurt, mix well.
- Add dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The dough shouldn't be sticky to touch.
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Spread the dough evenly over the sheet pan, it won't quite reach the edges. Trim the edges if desired.
- Bake at 350ºF for 15-18 minutes.
- When the cookies bars are done, they should be light and dry in color.
For the Icing
- Whip together the powdered sugar and butter on low speed.
- Add the vanilla extract, almond extract, cream, and food coloring (if desired).
- The consistency should be light and loose.
- Beat for 5-8 minutes until it's light and fluffy.
- Once the cookie bars are cooled, spread the icing over the cookies.

Notes
- Sour cream can be substituted for the plain yogurt. You can also use vanilla yogurt or Greek yogurt.
