Frozen Butterbeer Recipe from Harry Potter

This Frozen Butterbeer recipe recreates the iconic Harry Potter drink with a slushy cream soda combined with butterscotch flavor and a whipped butterscotch cream topping. The icy carbonation and sweet butterscotch provide a cold, sweet treat with a smooth and creamy layer on top. It is a themed beverage offering a playful, fizzy, and creamy combination perfect for fans wanting to enjoy a magical-inspired drink at home.

Description

The Frozen Butterbeer is prepared by mixing cream soda with butterscotch topping in a sealed bag, then chilling it inside a larger bag filled with ice and salt while shaking until it achieves a slushy consistency. The salt and ice mixture helps rapidly freeze the soda without turning it fully solid. The creamy topping is made separately by whipping heavy cream with butterscotch until stiff peaks form, creating a rich, smooth complement to the fizzy slush beneath.

This drink combines the effervescence of cream soda with the sweet, buttery notes of butterscotch in an icy form, finished with a whipped cream layer that balances the cold texture. It serves as a fun, dessert-style beverage that can be poured into cups and enjoyed immediately for a refreshing treat reminiscent of the fictional Butterbeer.

Ingredients

Servings

For each serving:

  • 6 cups ice cubes (enough to fill a gallon-sized freezer bag about half way)
  • 1 Tbsp. kosher salt (Ice cream salt or table salt will work too)
  • 1 cup Cream Soda
  • 1 tsp. butterscotch ice cream topping

For the Cream Topping:

  • 1 c. heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 1/4 c. butterscotch topping

Instructions

  1. Place ice cubes and salt in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.

For the Slush:

  1. Place cream soda and butterscotch in a smaller quart-sized Ziploc bag, press out all the air and seal tightly. Mix around until the butterscotch is mixed in with the cream soda.
  2. Place bag of soda IN the bag of ice and seal.
  3. Shake for about 3-5 minutes or until the soda is nice and slushy- if it gets too cold, wrap a dish cloth around it and continue shaking.

For the Cream Topping:

  1. Beat the cream and butterscotch with a mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
