Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing
Description
This Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing combines a base of mayonnaise and sour cream with a splash of milk to smooth the texture. White wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce provide acidity and depth, balanced by a hint of sugar and seasoning of salt, pepper, and a touch of garlic powder.
After mixing these components, crumbled blue cheese is gently folded in to retain texture and pockets of flavor. The dressing benefits from chilling before serving to blend the flavors and thicken slightly.
It can be stored in a container with a tight lid and stirred again before use. The recipe notes indicate it can be made with reduced-fat mayonnaise and sour cream as alternatives without losing much flavor.
Ingredients
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar or more to taste
- ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ cup blue cheese 2 ounces, crumbled
Instructions
- Combine mayonnaise, sour cream and milk in small bowl; mix until smooth. Stir in vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, pepper and garlic powder until well blended. Fold in cheese.
- Transfer to container with tight-fitting lid. Chill until serving time. Stir well before serving.
Notes
- Chill the dressing before serving to allow flavors to meld and achieve desired thickness.
- Reduced-fat mayonnaise and sour cream can substitute regular for a lighter dressing.
- Store in a container with a tight lid and stir well before use.
