Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread dough and place in the oven to bake as directed in the recipe.
  2. Set aside an instant-read thermometer and check that it is functioning normally.
  3. When 80% of the baking time has passed, remove the loaf from the oven and close the oven door.
  4. Insert the probe of the instant-read thermometer into the center of the loaf. The temperature should read 190°F (88°C) for soft breads like sandwich loaves or dinner rolls. However, for crusty, whole grain breads, the temperature should reach 205 to 210°F (96 to 99°C).
  5. If the bread has not reached the target temp, return to the oven to continue baking for at least 10 more minutes. Otherwise, let it cool to room temperature before serving.
