Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders

Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders recreate the iconic open-faced sandwich using small dinner rolls filled with turkey, bacon, tomato, and a creamy Pecorino Romano béchamel sauce. The rolls are baked with garlic butter and topped with cheese, delivering a rich, savory slider variation of a classic dish.

Description

This recipe starts with making a roux from butter and flour, then whisking in heavy cream to create a thick béchamel sauce flavored with Pecorino Romano cheese, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Separately, garlic is melted into butter to brush onto dinner roll halves arranged in a baking pan.

The bottom half of the rolls is layered with deli turkey, tomato slices, half the cheese sauce, and bacon pieces. The top half is placed on the slider and the remaining sauce is poured over it. After covering with foil, the sliders bake at 350°F for 10 minutes to meld flavors and warm through. Removing the foil and adding extra cheese completes the bake briefly to brown the topping.

The sliders combine soft, buttery bread, juicy turkey, crisp bacon, and creamy cheese sauce with a hint of garlic and nutmeg, making them an indulgent appetizer or small meal.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 dinner rolls cut in half crosswise, hawaiian, savory butter, package
  • 1 ½ Tbsp butter 1/4 cup, salted
  • 1 ½ Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • ¼ cup Pecorino Romano cheese plus extra for garnish
  • pinch nutmeg ground
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 8 oz. turkey breast sliced deli
  • 8 lices Bacon cooked
  • 2 Roma tomato sliced
  • parsley fresh chopped

Instructions

  1. In a 2 qt. saucepan, melt 1 1/2 Tbsp of butter and slowly whisk in flour to make a roux. Continue to cook roux for 2 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring frequently. Whisk heavy cream into the roux and cook over medium heat until the cream begins to simmer, about 2-3 minutes. Remove sauce from heat and slowly whisk in Pecorino-Romano cheese. Add nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Place the minced garlic and the remaining 1/4 cup of butter into a small saucepan over medium heat until butter is melted.
  3. Arrange the bottom half of the rolls in the bottom of an ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan and brush with melted butter. Place turkey evenly over the bottom half of rolls. Top with sliced tomatoes. Pour half of the sauce over the sandwiches, then top with sliced bacon pieces and top half of roll. Pour the garlic butter sauce over the top of the rolls.
  4. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle with additional pecorino romano. Bake for 2 more minutes. Garnish with parsley and cut into individual sliders. Serve with the remaining cheese sauce for dipping.
