Low Carb Mozzarella Sticks

Low Carb Mozzarella Sticks are breaded cheese sticks coated with a mixture of almond flour, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning, then air-fried to a crisp. The coating provides a crunchy texture while keeping carbs low, a great alternative to traditional breaded mozzarella sticks. Freezing before cooking helps the coating adhere well during air frying. They come out golden and melty inside, an ideal snack or appetizer for those following low-carb diets.

Description

The Low Carb Mozzarella Sticks recipe uses string cheese cut in half as the core ingredient, coated with a blend of almond flour, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic salt. The combination of cheese and nut-based coating delivers a satisfying crispy exterior and gooey cheese interior. The mozzarella sticks are first frozen for 30 minutes to ensure the coating stays in place when cooked at high heat in an air fryer for about 5 minutes. After cooking, a brief rest allows the cheese to set slightly, making them easier to handle and enjoy.

This method offers a lower-carb alternative to traditional fried mozzarella sticks by substituting almond flour for breadcrumbs. The Italian seasoning and garlic salt add extra flavor without needing heavy dips. These sticks can be served as snacks, appetizers, or paired with low-carb sauces. Adjusting air fryer times helps maintain optimal crispness, especially when making multiple batches.

Tip: Because the air fryer retains heat, reduce cooking time slightly for subsequent batches to avoid overcooking. Preparing the sticks with parchment paper between layers in the freezer prevents sticking and helps with batch cooking.

  7. Open air fryer and let stand for 1 minute before moving low carb mozzarella sticks to a plate.

Notes

  • Freeze coated mozzarella sticks before air frying to help the coating stay intact.
  • Reduce cooking time for later batches as the air fryer stays hot from previous batches.
  • Layer mozzarella sticks with parchment paper when freezing to keep them separated.
