Lucky Charm Rice Krispie Treats
Description
This recipe starts by separating Lucky Charms cereal from their marshmallows, reserving some marshmallows to press on top of the treat bars after setting. Butter is melted over medium-low heat, and marshmallows are stirred in until partially melted for a sticky, sweet base. Rice Krispies and Lucky Charms cereals, along with a pinch of salt, are folded in gently to coat evenly without stiffening the marshmallows.
After mixing, the cereal mixture is pressed into a prepared pan, then topped with the reserved Lucky Charms marshmallows for a colorful, inviting appearance. The bars chill for about 30 minutes to set before cutting, resulting in chewy, sweet treats with crispy cereal texture and bursts of sugary marshmallow.
These treats can be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature for up to five days and freeze well for longer storage, although crispness diminishes over time. Using a sprayed pizza cutter or knife helps make clean cuts once the bars are fully set. The recipe notes suggest that the final texture and flavor depend on using the specified cereal brands.
Ingredients
- 1 tick butter
- 1 bag mini marshmallows 10 oz
- 2 cups Rice Krispies
- 3 cups Lucky Charms cereal
- ¾ cup Lucky Charms cereal marshmallows and cereal separated
- pinch salt
Instructions
- Start by measuring ¾ cup of Lucky Charms and separating the marshmallows and cereal so it’s ready to pour in when needed.
- Heat a large pot on medium-low heat. Once warm, add the butter and let it melt. Stir continuously so it does not burn.
- Once butter has melted, add the marshmallows and continue stirring until they are 75% melted. Turn off the stove and remove the pan from heat.
- Pour in Rice Krispies 3 cups Lucky Charms, the Lucky Charms cereal from the separated portion, and salt. Stir together. Do not over stir or marshmallows will become overly stiff.
- Spray a 9x13 pan generously with cooking spray or line with parchment and pour the cereal mixture into the pan. Spread evenly.
- Then press the Lucky Charm Marshmallows on top of the Rice Krispies.
- Let the krispies chill for 30 minutes. Then, cut and enjoy!
Notes
- Store Rice Krispie Treats in the refrigerator or at room temperature for up to 5 days; freezing extends storage to 3 months though texture may soften.
- Use a sprayed pizza cutter or large knife to cut treats cleanly after they are completely cooled and set.
- Separating Lucky Charms marshmallows from cereal before mixing enhances visual appeal but is optional.
- This recipe has not been tested with off-brand cereals; texture and flavor may vary if substitutes are used.
