Maple Scones

Maple Scones are the perfect, sweet breakfast treat. Made with cinnamon, sour cream, and maple syrup, then topped off with a maple glaze.

Maple Scones:

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter , frozen and diced
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 large egg

Maple Glaze:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

Maple Scones:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt to a large food processor.
  3. Pulse a couple of times to "sift".
  4. Add butter and pulse until it resembles small crumbs.
  5. Add sour cream, maple syrup, and egg and pulse until large clumps form.
  6. Remove to a flour-covered surface and gently form into a ball.
  7. Pat gently into an 8-inch circle with your hands.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges.
  9. Place onto the baking sheet.
  10. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  11. Bake for 16-18 minutes.
  12. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from baking sheet.

Maple Glaze:

  1. Add butter and maple syrup to a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. Whisk in the powdered sugar until well combined.
  3. Dip the top of the scone into the glaze and let dry, for 1 hour.
