Margarita Cookies With Salty Sweet Tequila Glaze

These Margarita Cookies combine a tender, buttery cookie base with bright lime peel and orange extract flavors, rolled in a sparkling sugar and salt coating. After baking to a light golden edge, a drizzle of tequila-infused glaze adds a salty-sweet finish. The combination of citrus notes, sweet-and-salty contrast, and a crisp exterior with a soft interior makes these cookies a unique treat for gatherings or special occasions.

Description

Margarita Cookies With Salty Sweet Tequila Glaze features a soft, buttery cookie dough flavored with lime zest and orange extract. The dough is chilled, shaped into logs, and coated with a mix of sanding sugar and kosher salt before slicing and baking. This process creates a crunchy exterior that offsets the tender cookie center. Once cooled, the cookies are decorated with a glaze made from confectioners’ sugar, water, and tequila, imparting a subtle boozy sweetness balanced by a touch of saltiness from the coating. The lime and orange flavors complement the tequila glaze, giving the cookies a margarita-inspired profile without the drink.

The texture contrast between the sugar-and-salt coating and the tender cookie, combined with the citrus and tequila notes, makes the cookies particularly interesting. They bake until just lightly browned at the edges to maintain a delicate bite while ensuring enough structure to hold the glaze.

These cookies work well as a snack or dessert for parties, especially those where a cocktail-themed treat is appreciated. Chilling the dough before baking helps the cookies keep their shape and lets the sugar-salt coating adhere evenly for a refined finish.

Tequila Glaze:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
