Matcha Hot Chocolate
Description
Matcha Hot Chocolate combines white chocolate and milk heated together until smooth, creating a sweet, creamy base. Separately, matcha green tea powder is sifted and whisked into hot (not boiling) water to dissolve any lumps, preserving its delicate flavor and vibrant green color. Mixing the matcha into the white chocolate milk blends the smooth sweetness with the vegetal, slightly grassy notes of the tea. The addition of vanilla extract introduces a mellow warming aroma that complements both main ingredients. This drink is rich but balanced and designed to be served immediately for the best texture and temperature.
The texture is silky with the creamy body of the white chocolate and milk combined with the bright slight bitterness of matcha, creating a nuanced flavor contrast. Topping with whipped cream or marshmallows offers extra richness, enhancing the softness and sweetness of the drink. The instructions emphasize careful heating to avoid scorching and dissolving matcha completely to prevent bitterness and clumps.
For variation, swapping matcha with hojicha powder changes the flavor profile to a roasted, nutty note. Maple syrup and a pinch of salt can be added for additional flavor complexity and sweetness adjustment if desired.
