Misugaru (Multigrain Powder Drink)
Description
Misugaru (Multigrain Powder Drink) uses a blend of grains in powder form, combined with a sweetened water base to create a chilled, nourishing drink. The sweetened water can be made using honey or sugar dissolved in room temperature water, which aids in better incorporation. This sweet base is then poured over ice cubes and topped with 3 to 4 tablespoons of misugaru powder. Stirring gently allows some powder to dissolve while some floats to be savored gradually, providing texture and flavor contrast.
The method balances the natural sweetness with the earthy, nutty notes of the multigrain powder, delivering both refreshment and gentle nourishment. The powder can also be mixed with various milk alternatives, such as almond or soy milk, with added sweetener to produce a creamier variation of the drink. The recipe suggests storing misugaru powder chilled to maintain its freshness over longer periods.
This drink works well as a cool refreshment in warm weather or as a mild energy boost from the multigrain content. The option to adjust honey or sugar levels allows control over sweetness to individual preference.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1.5 Tbsp honey or 2 tsp sugar per 1 cup water
- 3 Tbsp misugaru
- 5-6 ice cubes
Instructions
- Make Honey or Sugar water. My favorite is honey water but you can make sugar water or even do part honey and sugar. Use room temp water to make dissolving honey or sugar easier. I gave you a range of sweetness. In order to balance with the ice and powder, it should be a little bit on the sweet side but it's up to you.
- HONEY WATER - for 1 cup of water, add 1 1/2 Tbs (for less sweet) up to 2 Tbs of honey (if you like sweet). Mix until dissolved.
- SUGAR WATER - for 1 cup of water, add 2 tsp up to 4 tsp sugar. Mix until dissolved.
- Get a bowl or a cup. Bowl works better if you are going to follow my recipe and not mix everything. Add the honey or sugar water and some ice cubes. 4-6 ice cubes per bowl.
- Sprinkle 3 to 4 Tbs Misugaru on top of the ice honey/sugar water. Swirl it around a few times with your spoon until some of it gets mixed in, BUT NOT ALL and then enjoy!! Use your spoon or drink directly from the bowl or cup but becareful not to inhale the powder!
Notes
- Honey water should be made with room temperature water to dissolve the honey more easily.
- Misugaru powder can be mixed with cold milk or milk alternatives with sugar to create a creamy variation; whisk thoroughly for best texture.
- Additional dry misugaru powder and ice can be added on top for extra flavor and chill in the milk version.
- Store misugaru powder in the refrigerator or freezer for longer freshness, though it can be kept at room temperature for 2-3 months.
