Old Fashioned Apple Crisp
Description
The Old Fashioned Apple Crisp is made with about 10 cups of peeled, cored, and sliced apples mixed with granulated sugar, flour, and cinnamon. A simple water addition helps the apples soften during baking. The topping mixes quick-cooking oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and melted butter to create a crumbly, golden crust that contrasts with the juicy apples below. Baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 45 minutes, this crisp achieves a balance of tender fruit and a slightly crunchy topping. It is a classic dessert best served warm, often paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream to complement the cinnamon and apple flavors.
Ingredients
- 10 cups apple from about 8-10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup water
For the topping
- 1 cup oats quick-cooking
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup butter melted, unsalted
