Oven Dried Strawberries
Description
This recipe involves preparing fresh hulled and sliced strawberries spaced on a parchment-lined baking sheet to allow air circulation. Optionally, a light sprinkle of sugar can be added depending on the sweetness of the berries. Baking at a low 200-degree temperature for several hours slowly dehydrates the fruit. The strawberries are flipped partway through baking to ensure even drying. The process retains the fruit’s vibrant color and flavor, resulting in chewy dried strawberries suitable for snacking or adding to cereals and baked goods.
Since no preservatives are added, these dried strawberries should be cooled completely before storing in an airtight container and are best consumed within about five days. The slow oven drying intensifies the natural sweetness and reduces moisture, transforming fresh strawberries into a shelf-stable ingredient with chewy texture.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups strawberry hulled & sliced, fresh
- 1-2 tbsp sugar optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the strawberry slices on the prepared baking sheet being sure to not crowd them. You will want the air to be able to flow easily between the strawberries. Sprinkle with sugar, if desired. (Note- Taste the strawberries when slicing them. If they are already pretty sweet, the sugar won't be necessary.)
- Place the strawberry slices in the oven & let them bake & dry for 2 hours. Take them out of the oven, flip them and then bake an additional 2-3 hours or until sufficiently dried.
- Allow to cool completely, and then transfer to an airtight container. Since there are no preservatives in these dried strawberries, they are best consumed within 5 days.
- Enjoy!
