Peanut Sauce
Description
This Peanut Sauce recipe is a straightforward blend of pantry staples bringing together savory, sour, sweet, and spicy elements. Natural peanut butter forms the creamy base while lime juice (or rice vinegar) adds brightness. Tamari lends a savory, slightly salty flavor suitable for gluten-free diets, and sriracha introduces gentle heat. Maple syrup balances the tang and spice with subtle sweetness.
The sauce can be thinned with water to achieve the desired pourable texture, making it versatile for dipping vegetables, drizzling over salads or noodles, or as a marinade component. Incorporating garlic and ginger enhances the sauce’s complexity with fresh pungency, and toasted sesame oil provides a nutty, lingering aroma.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup peanut butter natural creamy
- 3 to 4 tablespoons lime juice or rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons tamari
- 1/2 teaspoon sriracha more if desired
- 1/4 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1 to 3 tablespoons water
optional flavor additions:
- 1 garlic grated on a microplane zester, clove
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ginger grated
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil toasted
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, lime juice, tamari, sriracha, and maple syrup. Whisk in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to reach a drizzleable consistency. Peanut butters vary in thickness, so you may need more or less water each time you make this recipe.
- If desired, stir in garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and/or more sriracha.
