Peppermint Eggnog Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream 60 milliliters
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate chopped, or milk chocolate, 113 grams
  • 1 cup milk 240 milliliters
  • 1 cup eggnog 240 milliliters
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

For serving:

  • Whipped Cream
  • candy canes
  • marshmallows
  • nutmeg freshly grated

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the heavy cream to a simmer over medium heat, stirring often. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate.
  2. Allow to sit for a minute, then whisk together until blended and smooth. Transfer the ganache to a bowl.
  3. Clean the saucepan, add the milk and eggnog, then place over medium heat. Once the liquid is heated and bubbles form around the edges, add the ganache and whisk until smooth and heated through.
  4. Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla and peppermint extracts.
  5. Serve immediately in a large mug topped with whipped cream, candy canes, a sprinkling of nutmeg, and/or marshmallows.
