Pigs in a blanket wreath with maple-mustard dipping sauce

This recipe creates a pigs in a blanket wreath using cocktail sausages wrapped individually in puff pastry squares. The assembled wreath is brushed with egg wash and baked until the pastry is golden and flaky. It is served with a homemade maple-mustard dipping sauce made from mayonnaise, maple syrup, lemon juice, Dijon and wholegrain mustards, seasoned with salt and pepper. The combination highlights a balance of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors.

Description

The pigs in a blanket wreath relies on pre-cut puff pastry squares wrapped around cocktail sausages, creating bite-sized appetizers baked to a crisp, golden finish. Egg wash applied before baking helps achieve a shiny, appetizing crust. Baking at 200ºC ensures the pastry cooks through while the sausage inside remains juicy.

The accompanying dipping sauce blends creamy mayonnaise with sweetness from maple syrup, acidity from lemon juice, and the piquancy of Dijon and wholegrain mustard. This sauce complements the rich pastry and savory sausage by adding contrasting bright and sweet notes.

Serving the wreath on a baking sheet shaped as a ring, with the maple-mustard dipping sauce in the center, makes for an inviting presentation. This setup is ideal for sharing in casual gatherings or as an appetizer.
