Pineapple slushie
Description
The Pineapple Slushie starts by blending peeled, cubed fresh pineapple until smooth. Then ice is added and blended just enough to break it into coarse pieces, preserving the icy texture typical of slushies rather than blending into a smoothie. The honey or preferred sweetener can be added after blending to achieve the desired sugar level. Alternative sweeteners like maple syrup or coconut sugar may also be used.
Measuring pineapple and ice by volume provides an easy ratio to adjust portions; doubling the pineapple also doubles the ice. The slushie’s consistency is coarse but mostly uniform, making it a cool, hydrating drink.
Serve the slushie chilled in glasses with optional fun straws or cocktail umbrellas for presentation. It’s an uncomplicated, fresh option especially enjoyable during hot weather.
Ingredients
- 500 millilitre pineapple 2 cups, fresh, chunks
- 250 millilitre ice 1 cup
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or any sweetener of your choice, if needed, optional
Instructions
- Start by peeling the pineapple and cutting it into cubes. Measure out a cup of pineapple and add it to the blender. To make more or less pineapple slush, you can adjust the amount of pineapple you use. A good rule of thumb is to use twice as much pineapple as water. For example, if you want to make a larger batch, you can use 5 cups of pineapple with 2.5 cups of ice. If you want it sweeter, add sweetener according to your taste.
- Blend the pineapple until it reaches a mostly smooth consistency, which usually takes around 20 seconds.
- Add the ice and blend until the ice breaks up into a rough slush. Be careful not to blend it too finely, as you want to maintain that slushy texture.
- Taste for sweetness and add the honey according to taste. You can also use maple syrup, coconut sugar, castor sugar or a powdered sweetener.
- Pour into glasses and add a fun straw or a cocktail umbrella.
