Pizza Sauce
Description
The sauce starts with tomato paste combined with minced garlic and Italian seasoning, giving it an herby and savory foundation. A small amount of granulated sugar balances the acidity of the tomato, while salt and black pepper season the mixture. Water adjusts the consistency for spreading, and extra virgin olive oil adds richness and smoothness.
Whisking the ingredients until well combined forms a uniform sauce. Resting the sauce covered at room temperature for one to two hours allows the flavors to meld and develop a harmonious taste. Once rested, the sauce can be used immediately on pizza dough or refrigerated for up to five days.
Ingredients
- 1 can tomato paste 6 ounces
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup water 250 g
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl add tomato paste, garlic, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, pepper, water, and oil. Whisk until well combined.
- Cover and let rest at room temperature for 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to blend. (This is optional, but recommended.)
- After 1-2 hours at room temperature, use on your favorite pizza dough or recipe. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
