Pizza Sliders
Description
Pizza Sliders use King's Hawaiian sweet rolls cut in half horizontally to create small sandwich bases. The bottom halves are layered with pizza sauce, a mixture of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese combined with pizza seasoning, and pepperoni slices. Additional shredded cheese tops the pepperoni before closing the sandwiches with the roll tops spread with remaining pizza sauce. A melted butter topping mixed with fresh garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper is brushed over the slider tops to add richness and flavor.
When baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes, the cheese melts thoroughly while the tops develop a slight browning. The sliders combine the soft, slightly sweet rolls with classic pizza components, resulting in an easy-to-share dish that features melty, cheesy interiors with savory pepperoni and aromatic seasoning.
Optional toppings such as bell peppers, roasted red peppers, onions, or cooked sausage can be added after the pepperoni layer or substituted to customize the sliders. Using a mix of traditional and deli pepperoni varieties adds texture and flavor complexity to the sandwiches.
This recipe works well as a casual snack, party food, or easy dinner, and the sliders are best served warm right out of the oven to enjoy the melty cheese and soft roll texture.
Ingredients
- 2 packages sweet rolls 12 count each, King's Hawaiian brand
- 1 jar pizza sauce 13 ounces; OR about 1 ½ cups homemade sauce, or marinara sauce
- 8 ounces pepperoni sliced
- 16 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded
- 6-8 ounces Parmesan Cheese freshly grated
- 1 ½ teaspoons pizza seasoning
For the topping:
- 2 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
- 1 clove garlic finely minced, fresh
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Pinch salt
- Pinch black pepper
Additional optional toppings:
- bell pepper thinly sliced
- roasted red pepper
- onion thinly sliced
- sausage cooked and crumbled
- …and more!
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a large baking dish or a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Do not pull the rolls apart; simply use a large serrated knife to slice the rolls in half as you would slice a bagel, separating the tops from the bottoms. Place the layer of bottoms into the prepared baking pan, cut side up.
- In a bowl, mix together the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses with the pizza seasoning.
- Evenly spread about half the pizza sauce on the bottom layer of the rolls and sprinkle half of the cheese mixture over the sauce. Layer the pepperoni over the cheese and top with the remaining cheese. Spread the rest of the sauce on the cut side of the roll tops and top the sliders.
- Melt the butter in a small bowl and combine with garlic, Italian seasoning and salt and pepper.
- Brush the tops of the sliders with the mixture.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is nice and melty and the tops are slightly browned. Optionally grate some additional parmesan cheese on top immediately after removing the sliders from the oven.
Notes
- Try combining traditional pepperoni with thinly sliced deli pepperoni for varied texture and flavor.
- If using additional toppings, layer them over the pepperoni or replace the pepperoni altogether to suit your preferences.
