Poultry Seasoning
Description
The Poultry Seasoning consists of measured amounts of ground sage, dried thyme, marjoram, rosemary, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black and white pepper, nutmeg, and dried lemon peel. These herbs and spices combine to create a balanced seasoning with herbal, warm, and slightly sharp flavors. Grinding all ingredients into a fine powder ensures consistent seasoning and easy blending into dishes.
This blend is intended to be stored in a cool, dark place within a sealed glass jar to maintain its aroma and potency. It is best used within a month for optimal flavor but can be kept for several months. This seasoning is typically added to poultry recipes to enhance depth and complexity without overpowering the natural meat flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons sage ground
- 2 tablespoons thyme dried
- 3 teaspoons marjoram dried
- 2 teaspoons rosemary dried
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon dried lemon peel (use 1/4 teaspoon if it's already in powdered form)
Instructions
- Place everything in a spice or coffee grinder and grind until powdered. Transfer to a glass jar with a lid and store in a cool, dark place. For best flavor use within a month but will keep several months. Makes about 1/2 cup.
