Red Velvet Cookies

Red Velvet Cookies combine a tender, cocoa-infused dough with a vivid red hue, topped with cream cheese frosting and optional red sprinkles. The cookies bake to a soft texture with a slight spring when touched, balanced by the smooth and creamy frosting adding richness and sweetness. This version offers a portable dessert alternative that captures the classic red velvet flavor in cookie form.

Description

These Red Velvet Cookies start with creaming butter, vanilla, and sugar before adding eggs, sour cream, cocoa powder, and red food coloring to create a well-mixed dough. Flour and baking powder are incorporated last to provide structure without toughness. Dropped onto lined trays and baked for 8-10 minutes, the cookies maintain a tender, slightly springy top while holding their shape.

After cooling briefly, the cookies can be topped with a cream cheese frosting made by beating butter, cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Red sprinkles can be added for decoration. The frosting adds a smooth texture and tangy sweetness that complements the mild chocolate notes and buttery cookie base.

Storing these cookies in the fridge is recommended due to the cream cheese frosting; bringing them back to room temperature before serving helps the flavors and texture shine. The recipe allows for a sweet and visually striking treat for dessert or special occasions.
