Simit: All-time favorite Turkish street food. Simit is a ring-shaped bread coated with sesame seed. This famous Turkish street food has been around since the 1500s from Ottoman times. Traditionally eaten as a snack or as part of breakfast but can be eaten any time of the day.

Ingredients
Ingredients For Simit Recipe (7 Simit)
- 500 gr. flour + 2-3 tbsp extra if needed
- 1+1/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp dried yeast
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
- To the mixing bowl add lukewarm water, yeast, sugar, oil, flour and salt over the flour and begin to knead. Add more flour until it is smooth and doesn’t stick.
- Cut the dough into 7 pieces. You can scale the dough and cut Into 7 piece. It should be about 120gr. for one Simit After dividing the dough into 7, rest for about half an hour.
Shaping Turkish Simit:
- Shape the pieces into long strip. Fold it and twist. and rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Seal the two sides together and make a ring shape (Please watch the video for details) Cover and rest for 15 minutes.
- Dip into molasses mixture and sesame seeds. Rest for another 15 minutes.
- Stretch to make a thinner ring and rest 20-25 more minutes on the tray that is lined with baking paper. Bake at 180C for about 25-30 minutes until Golden color 😊
Notes
- What you can eat with simit? In Turkey, if we serve with breakfast we eat with traditional Turkish breakfast spreads. But as a snack or quick lunch you can eat with white cheese, olives, and of course Turkish tea.
