Simple syrup with skinny version

This recipe provides instructions for making both regular and skinny versions of simple syrup using sugar or no-calorie sweeteners. The syrup is cooked by dissolving sweetener into water over medium-high heat until soft boiling, then cooled and stored. Cooking time adjustments affect the syrup's thickness and clarity, useful for varying culinary needs.

Description

Simple syrup is a versatile liquid sweetener made by dissolving sugar or alternative sweeteners in water. This recipe offers a regular version with equal parts sugar and water, and a skinny variant using a no-calorie sweetener diluted in a higher water ratio. The syrup is heated gently until the sugar fully dissolves, avoiding burning by stirring continuously. Extended cooking can thicken the syrup, while short boiling yields a thinner consistency. Using purified water and quality sugar helps maintain a clear color. Once cooled, the syrup is stored in an airtight container and remains usable for up to two months refrigerated.

Ingredients

Servings

REGULAR SIMPLE SYRUP

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup water

SKINNY SIMPLE SYRUP

  • ¼ cup no calorie sweetener or 15 individual packets
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan add both ingredients and bring to a soft boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Keep mixing the sugar with a wooden spoon to make sure it doesn't stick to the bottom. This will ensure all of the sugar melts all the way.
  3. Place in an airtight container cool completely before storing in fridge.
  4. Simple syrup last about 1 to 2 months in refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use purified or filtered water and high-quality sugar to produce a clearer simple syrup.
  • Adjust cooking time to achieve desired syrup thickness: shorter for thin syrup, longer at lower heat for thicker syrup.
  • Store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator; it keeps for 1 to 2 months.
