Spiced Capsicum Martini

If you are a fan of the bloody mary and a salty margarita then this is the cocktail for you! The capsicum is muddled with lime, tomatoes and chilli to give you a savoury 'salad' juice. A splash of tabasco and some sugar syrup balance everything out into a spicy sweet peppery martini. Oh and some vodka!

Ingredients

Servings
  • black pepper freshly ground
  • salt coarse
  • 2 lime
  • 1 red bell pepper red capsicum
  • 2 cherry tomato
  • 1 cm jalapeno pepper more or less depending on your spice tolerance, green, sized chunk
  • ½ garlic clove
  • 80 ml vodka I love to use smoked vodka, 1/3 cup
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup more if you like the real sweet and salt hit. Or omit completely, sugar syrup
  • 1 Tabasco sauce dash
  • salt additional, to taste
  • black pepper additional, to taste

Instructions

  1. Grind the pepper into a small dish (one that will fit the rim of your martini glass) and add in an equal amount of salt.
  2. Cut one of the limes into quarters and run the lime around the rim of 2 martini glasses.
  3. Dip the edges in the salt and pepper mix and set aside.
  4. Chop the capsicum into small chunks and add it to a cocktail shaker with the cherry tomatoes, chilli pepper, juice of the remaining lime.
  5. Muddle it with a muddler (or the end of a rolling pin) until the capsicums are soft and mushed.
  6. Add in the half garlic clove.
  7. Pour in the the vodka, sugar syrup, tabasco and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  8. Add plenty of ice and shake well. By well I mean shake like a crazy drunk version of Tom Cruise in cocktail. You want to shake this for at least a minute to really break down the ice and get every last bit of flavour out of the veg.
  9. Strain the martini into your prepared glasses.
  10. Then put on some Starship and get your cheese going (See above ;-) )
