Sugar Free Homemade Ginger Ale
Description
The recipe begins by peeling and finely grating fresh ginger, which is then squeezed in a muslin or cheesecloth to extract pure ginger juice. This juice forms the spicy base for the ginger ale when combined with fresh lemon juice and chilled carbonated water. A powdered sweetener is stirred in to add sweetness without sugar, allowing control over the drink's sweetness level. Ice cubes and mint leaves are added just before serving, refreshing the drink and elevating its flavor.
Divided into two servings, the drink maintains a low net carb count of about 3 grams per serving, making it a suitable alternative to commercially sweetened sodas. Omitting the ginger juice transforms the recipe into a sugar free lemonade.
Ingredients
- 6 cm ginger root peeled and grated
- lemon juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tablespoon powdered sweetener or more, if you prefer
- 500 ml / 2 cups carbonated water
