Ingredients
- 2 2 cups self-rising flour plus more for flouring hands and board
- 1/3 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 1/4 cup apple cider
- 2 2 tablespoons butter melted
For the Apple Cider Glaze
- 2 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 1/2 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1 1 cup confectioners' sugar

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 475ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or with two forks. Stir in buttermilk and apple cider until just combined.
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Lightly flour hands and pull together the ball of dough. Gently pat the dough into large disc about 1/2-inch thick. Cut biscuits using a 2-inch cutter. Place biscuits onto prepared sheet pan and bake until lightly browned and cooked throughout, about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter.
For the Apple Cider Glaze:
- Add the butter and apple cider to a small saucepan set over medium heat. Whisk together until the butter has melted completely. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth.
Notes
- Freezer InstructionsBiscuits may be made ahead and frozen in one of two ways. Unbaked - prepare without baking, but place the baking sheet of cut out biscuits into the freezer until frozen throughout, about 15 - 20 minutes. Remove from the freezer and place into a sealable freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. To serve, remove from the oven and bake as directed. You may need to add a few minutes to the baking time to bake from frozen.Baked - Bake as directed and allow to cool completely. Then store in sealable freezer bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. To serve, reheat in the oven or microwave until heated throughout.
