Thai Iced Tea

Thai Iced Tea combines strongly brewed Pantai Thai tea mix with sweetness from condensed milk and chilled ice, resulting in a creamy, smooth beverage with a bold tea flavor balanced by rich sweetness. The tea is brewed, steeped, and chilled before assembly, creating an iced drink that is refreshing and satisfying without dilution from melting ice cubes.

Description

Thai Iced Tea is made by boiling filtered water with a robust Thai tea mix, then steeping the brew to extract deep flavor and aroma. After straining the leaves, the tea is thoroughly chilled to maintain its intense taste when served cold. This tea is traditionally sweetened with condensed milk, which adds creamy richness and sweetness, contrasting the strong, dark tea base.

The final drink assembles over crushed ice for optimal cooling and slow melting, preserving the intended flavor and texture. The sweetness level can be adjusted by the amount of condensed milk added, commonly about 3 tablespoons for authenticity. This preparation results in a refreshing iced tea with layered flavors from the rich tea and condensed milk.

Making the tea ahead and chilling it overnight enhances flavor integration and convenience. Use crushed ice if possible to prevent quick dilution, and tailor sweetness to taste for a balanced drink that offers smooth, creamy texture alongside bold tea notes.

  • 1 c Thai tea mix Pantai brand
  • ice crushed if available
  • condensed milk

Instructions

Thai Tea Instructions

  1. In a pot over the stove, add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Carefully add 1 cup of Pantai Thai Tea mix to the pot and stir thoroughly. Let the tea boil for 3 minutes, watching over the pot religiously in case it over boils (this happens quickly).
  3. Remove the pot off the stove and let the mixture steep for 20 minutes.
  4. Using a mesh strainer (or tea sock), strain the tea leaves (this should leave with you a little over 2 cups of liquid left).
  5. Let the tea chill for at least 2 hours before assembly. I like to make this a day ahead of time and allow the tea to chill in the refrigerator.

Assembly Instructions

  1. In two 8 oz glasses, add crushed (much preferred!) ice to each cup and divide the Thai tea liquid into each glass.
  2. Add desired amount of condensed milk. I like to start with 2 tbsp of condensed milk and adjust by adding 1 tbsp. (I found that 3 tbsp was the perfect sweetness level to get the authentic Thai tea flavor). Remember, the ice will also help dilute this flavor so we want a strong and sweet base.
  3. Top off with more crushed ice and enjoy!
