This grinder sandwich is the absolute best sub sandwich you’ve ever had. The secret to this amazing sandwich is the tangy dressing that goes on top, as made famous on TikTok!

Ingredients
For the dressing:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 2 to 3 garlic cloves grated
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon crushed red chili flakes
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Heaping ¼ cup pepperoncini peppers or pickled cherry peppers finely diced
- Heaping ¼ cup finely diced red onion
- ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
For the sandwich:
- 2 loaves crusty Italian sub sandwich bread
- 1 pound sliced deli turkey
- 1 pound sliced deli ham
- ½ pound sliced soppressata
- ½ pound sliced deli pepperoni
- ½ pound sliced provolone cheese
- 1 head iceberg lettuce sliced thin
- 1 large tomato sliced

Instructions
- Add the dressing ingredients to a bowl; whisk to combine. Taste and add more salt/pepper if desired. Refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.
To assemble the sandwiches:
- Slice the loaves of bread in half lengthwise. Scoop out some of the bread from each side (this will make the loaves look like boats). This will help make room for the toppings.
- Layer the bottom with slices of cheese and the meats to your liking. Season the tomato slices with salt and pepper; place on top of the meats and cheese.
- In a bowl, toss together the lettuce with some of the dressing. Top the sandwich with the salad, followed by the top bun.
- Slice into pieces with a large serrated knife and serve with additional dressing if desired.
Notes
- This recipe makes enough dressing for 4 large sandwiches or 8 smaller sandwiches. You can scale the dressing recipe down if you want to make fewer sandwiches, but I recommend making the full amount of dressing – you will want to put it on everything!
- You can make these sandwiches on hoagie rolls if you prefer. You will likely need about 4 hoagie rolls.
- Feel free to use as much deli meat as you like on your sandwiches; this will also depend on how big your loaves of bread are.
- If you don’t like the recommended meats, try substituting your favorites: pastrami, roast beef, etc. You can also add thinly sliced red onion if you’d like extra onion on your sandwich.
- Grinders are typically served cold, but are also delicious served hot. To serve warm, layer the meats and cheese onto the bottom bun. Place on a baking sheet next to the top bun (cut-side up) and place under the broiler. Broil until the cheese is melted and the meats are heated through and the top bun is toasted. Finish the sandwich by topping with the tomato slices and salad.
