Ingredients
- 200 g Black Gram Lentils Urad Dal
- 1 L water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1, onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch ginger grated
- 2 green chillies chopped
- 2 tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Coriander for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the urad dal thoroughly under cold water.
- In a large pot, add the washed urad daal and water. Bring to a boil.
- Add salt and turmeric, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the daal is soft and fully cooked.
- In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add onions, garlic, ginger, and green chillies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add tomatoes and cook until they are soft and pulpy.
- Pour this mixture into the cooked urad daal and stir well.
- Add garam masala and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.

- Ensure to rinse the urad daal thoroughly to remove any impurities.
- Adjust the amount of green chillies according to your preference for spiciness.
