Vanilla Cake Roll with Strawberries
Description
This Vanilla Cake Roll with Strawberries is created by whipping eggs with sugar until fluffy, then gently folding in a flour-based mixture. The batter is spread thinly into a wax-paper-lined pan and baked until just set, forming a flexible sponge. After baking, the cake is carefully rolled in a confectioners' sugar dusted kitchen towel to set the shape and cool.
The filling is prepared by cooking flour and milk into a thickened paste, cooled, then blended with creamed butter, shortening, sugar, vanilla, and salt until light and fluffy. This creamy filling provides texture contrast and moisture. The addition of fresh, sliced strawberries tossed with sugar introduces brightness and natural sweetness that complements the vanilla components.
Once the cake has cooled, it is unrolled, spread with the filling and berries, then rolled again to form a log. This style of cake roll offers an elegant presentation with balanced flavors. It can be sliced thin or thick, suitable for sharing or personal enjoyment.
