Vegan Cranberry Sauce
Description
This cranberry sauce is made by boiling brown sugar and water together until the sugar dissolves, then simmering cranberries in the mixture until they burst and release their juices. Orange zest adds citrus fragrance and a layer of flavor, while cinnamon brings warmth to the sauce. After simmering for 10 to 12 minutes, the sauce is removed from heat and cooled before storing.
The sauce has a balance of sweetness from sugar and tartness from cranberries, with the orange and cinnamon enhancing complexity. Its texture is thick but spoonable, making it suitable as a side or accompaniment to dishes.
The sauce continues thickening after refrigeration and can be stored up to one week in a sealed container, allowing it to be made ahead for convenience. Use fresh or frozen cranberries, making this recipe adaptable to ingredient availability.
