Watermelon Margarita
Description
The Watermelon Margarita recipe starts by optionally salting and rimming rocks glasses with lime and coarse salt, enhancing the drink's flavor contrast. Blanco tequila is infused with thinly sliced jalapeño pepper for 15 to 30 minutes, imparting gentle heat to the spirit. Fresh watermelon is blended with lime juice and ice until smooth, delivering a vibrant base with natural sweetness and tartness.
This watermelon juice is poured into the prepared glasses filled with ice, and tequila is stirred in individually to taste. The resulting cocktail features a fruity, mellow watermelon flavor brightened by lime with an optional spicy undertone from jalapeños. Garnishing with lime slices enhances aroma and presentation.
The margarita’s textures range from icy and smooth to zesty and crisp. The infusion step allows adjusting the heat level, making it adaptable to preferences. Serving in salt-rimmed glasses heightens the citrus and sweetness.
Ingredients
- ½ cup blanco tequila
- 1 jalapeno pepper thinly sliced, optional, small
- 5 cups watermelon cut
- ½ cup lime juice plus lime slices for garnish, fresh
- ice
- lime for the glass rims, optional, lime wedge, coarse salt
- salt for the glass rims, optional, lime wedge, coarse salt
Instructions
- Salt the glass rims (optional): Rub a lime wedge around the rims of 4 rocks glasses. Fill a small plate with coarse salt. Dip each glass into the salt to coat the rim. Fill with ice.
- Combine the tequila and half the jalapeño slices, if using. Set aside for 15 to 30 minutes to infuse (the longer you infuse, the spicier it will be). If you're not using the jalapeño, skip this step and proceed with the recipe.
- In a blender, combine the watermelon with the lime juice and a handful of ice. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the watermelon juice into the prepared glasses. Stir 2 tablespoons tequila into each glass. Taste and adjust, garnish with the lime slices, and serve.
