Whipped Coffee - Dalgona Coffee
Description
This recipe creates a whipped coffee topping using instant coffee powder mixed with sugar and boiling water. Whisking continuously aerates the mixture until it thickens into a stable, creamy foam reminiscent of beaten egg whites. Pouring cold milk into glasses and topping with a dollop of this mousse produces a layered beverage with a contrast between the cool milk and bitter-sweet coffee foam.
The thick foam provides a textured coffee experience that can be mixed in to adjust strength. It is typically served cold over chilled milk with optional ice cubes for added refreshment.
The whisking process is key to achieve the proper stiff peaks in the foam, requiring consistent effort. Using quality instant coffee powder yields better flavor and foam stability.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon instant coffee powder Nescafe brand
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoon water boiling
- 2 cups milk cold, with or without ice cubes
Instructions
- Using an electric mixer with a whisk attachment, or a regular whisk and lots of arm power, whisk together the nescafe powder, sugar and hot water.
- Keep whisking and whisking and the mixture will become thick and foamy, and eventually stiff, almost like egg whites. Once it becomes so stiff, it won't drop off a spoon, you're ready!
- Pour cold milk into two glasses, add ice cubes if you like, and place a large dollop of coffee mousse in each glass. Before drinking, stir it a little. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe was adapted from Instagram's viral Dalgona Coffee trend.
