7UP Biscuits

7UP Biscuits are soft, fluffy baked squares combining Bisquick mix, sour cream, and a carbonated soda like 7UP or Sprite. The melted butter in the pan helps create a golden, slightly crispy bottom, while the soda adds lightness to the dense biscuit dough. These biscuits bake quickly at high heat, resulting in warm, tender pieces with subtle sweetness and a buttery finish. They make a practical side for dinners or a comforting snack when served warm.

Description

The 7UP Biscuits recipe uses a biscuit mix combined with sour cream and 7UP or Sprite soda to yield light, fluffy baked squares. Melting butter in the baking dish before adding the biscuit dough allows the bottoms to brown nicely and adds a rich buttery flavor. The soda's carbonation reacts with the baking mix to produce lift, resulting in a tender crumb. While sticky at first, the dough is turned and cut into squares before baking at 425°F until golden brown.

These biscuits have a soft yet slightly crisp texture, with a faint sweetness from the soda balancing the richness of the butter and sour cream. They make a nice accompaniment to soups, stews, or breakfast dishes, providing a comforting homemade bread option without complex mixing or rising.

When making 7UP Biscuits, ensure the melted butter doesn't brown before adding the dough to maintain the intended flavor and color. The biscuits are best enjoyed warm from the oven. Leftover biscuits can be reheated gently to refresh their tenderness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 tablespoons butter salted
  • 2 ½ cups Bisquick Mix divided use, homemade
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup 7UP or Sprite

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Place butter in an 8x8-inch pan. Place pan in the oven to let the butter melt while the oven is preheating, about 3-5 minutes. Make sure to pull the pan from the oven once the butter is melted so it does not brown.
  3. In a large bowl, add 2 ¼ cups of the baking mix and the sour cream. Use a pastry blender, a fork, or two knives to cut the sour cream into the baking mix until the sour cream is well distributed and the mixture is shaggy.
  4. Stir in the 7UP or Sprite. The dough will be sticky.
  5. Sprinkle a clean work surface with half of the remaining baking mix. Turn the dough out onto the work surface and sprinkle the top of the dough with the remaining mix.
  6. Using your hands, pat the dough into a square roughly 6x6 inches. Use a floured dough blade, pizza cutter, or knife to cut the dough into 9 squares.
  7. Place the dough squares in the pan on top of the melted butter. Bake at 425°F for 15-16 minutes, or until the tops are golden.

Notes

  • Use salted butter to avoid adding extra salt.
  • Take care to remove the pan from the oven promptly once butter is melted to prevent browning.
  • Cut the dough into squares on a floured surface for easy handling.
  • Serve warm for best texture and flavor.
