Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon Bites

Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon Bites are small pieces of salmon seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, coated lightly in a spicy-sweet Bang Bang sauce made from mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey. Cooking the bites in an air fryer creates lightly crisped edges while keeping the center tender and flaky. The reserved sauce is drizzled over the cooked salmon, and fresh chives add a mild onion flavor contrast. This dish serves as a flavorful, easy-to-make appetizer or light meal.

Description

This recipe starts by cutting skinless salmon fillets into 1-inch pieces, then tossing them in a blend of olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. The air fryer heats to 390°F and cooks the salmon bites in batches, giving each batch about 4-5 minutes per side until the salmon is opaque and flaky inside with a slightly firm exterior.

The Bang Bang sauce combines mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey for a creamy, spicy balance. Half of this sauce coats the raw salmon before cooking, and the rest is reserved for drizzling on after cooking, which prevents sauce burning. Garnishing with chives adds fresh, mild flavor that complements the dish.

This method offers a quick way to prepare flavorful salmon bites with minimal oil and mess. Oven instructions are also provided: baking at 400°F for about 16 minutes with a flip halfway ensures even cooking. Serve this dish as a snack or alongside a salad for a light meal.

Ingredients

Servings

Salmon

  • 1 ½ pounds salmon about 4 filets, skins removed, cut into 1-inch bites
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup sweet chili sauce Thai
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha or more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F.*
  2. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add salmon bites and gently toss to coat.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey. Mix well.
  5. Pour half of the Bang Bang sauce into a separate bowl, reserving it for after the salmon has been cooked. Toss the seasoned salmon bites in the remaining sauce.
  6. Working in batches, place the salmon bites in an even layer in the basket of your air fryer. (Do not overcrowd.) Air fry for 4-5 minutes. Flip and cook 4-5 minutes more on the opposite side, or until the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 140-145°F.
  7. Transfer the salmon to a plate and drizzle with the reserved bang bang sauce.
  8. Garnish with chives.

Notes

  • If baking in the oven, avoid coating the salmon with Bang Bang sauce before baking to prevent burning; toss the salmon in sauce after cooking.
  • Cook salmon bites in batches in the air fryer to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  • The reserved Bang Bang sauce drizzled after cooking adds flavor without burning during cooking.
