Ingredients

  • 16 16 oz tofu firm or extra firm
  • 2 2 tsp dried minced onion
  • ¾ ¾ tsp kosher salt Diamond Crystal brand
  • ½ ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ ¼ tsp ginger powder
  • ⅛ tsp white pepper powder
  • 2 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • neutral oil spray

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the tofu.
  2. Use a tofu press to remove excess liquid from the 16 oz tofu. Press for at least 15 minutes. Pat dry again.
  3. Cut the tofu into 32 square pieces. First, cut the tofu into four long pieces vertically. Then, cut another four slices horizontally; this should give you 16 pieces. Take each piece and cut it in half so that you end up with two cubes of the same size. Repeat with each piece. You should end up with 32 cubed pieces.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400 °F.
  5. In a bowl, combine the seasoning ingredients (2 tsp dried minced onion, ¾ tsp kosher salt, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp onion powder, ¼ tsp ginger powder, and ⅛ tsp white pepper powder). Mix until combined.
  6. Sprinkle half the seasoning over the tofu pieces. Gently mix the tofu pieces, then add the other half of the seasoning. Mix until all sides are coated. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle the 2 tbsp cornstarch over the tofu pieces and gently mix.
  8. Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with neutral oil spray.
  9. Add the tofu pieces in one even layer with space in between each piece. Spray the tofu pieces with neutral oil spray.
  10. Air fry for 15 minutes, rotate the basket around (or flip the tofu pieces if you are using a traditional, enclosed air fryer basket). Air fry for another 15 minutes.
  11. When the tofu pieces are golden brown and crispy, transfer them to a serving plate and eat.
