Amla Chutney Recipe- Indian Gooseberry Chutney

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh Amla chopped Indian gooseberry - 3-4 amla work well
  • cup Cilantro or coriander leaves sorted, washed, drained
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 small green chili
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • salt as per taste
  • 1 tablespoon water add as per the thickness of chutney

Instructions

  1. Wash and deseed 3-4 raw amla, peel and chop 1 small onion, and sort a handful of cilantro or coriander leaves and wash them in a colander. Peel 2 garlic cloves and wash green chili.
  2. Place the chopped amla, onion, cilantro, garlic, and green chili into a blender. Add the salt and red chili powder. Blend all the ingredients until you get a smooth chutney. If needed, add a little water.
  3. Taste the chutney and adjust the salt or chili powder if needed. Blend briefly again to mix well.
  4. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl. Serve the fresh Green Amla Chutney with your favorite snacks or meals.

Notes

  • Add water slowly to avoid making the chutney too runny. The consistency should be thick enough to scoop but smooth enough to spread.
  • Amla are sour and tangy in taste and I recommend not adding any lemon juice or raw mango as that would add more to the tangy flavor.
