Apple Dump Cake

Apple Dump Cake layers canned apple pie filling with a dry yellow cake mix and melted butter to create a simple baked dessert with a bubbly, golden crust. The addition of apple pie spice throughout adds warmth and depth to the sweet apple base. Chopped pecans on top provide optional texture and a nutty contrast. Baking the dish in a single pan makes for easy preparation and cleanup.

Description

Apple Dump Cake combines two cans of apple pie filling with a yellow cake mix and melted butter to create a straightforward dessert baked into a bubbly and golden casserole. Sprinkling apple pie spice on both the apple filling and cake mix layers adds a subtle spiced aroma. The dry cake mix on top bakes into a crumbly crust, while the butter ensures moistness and richness. Optional pecans give a crunchy touch and nutty flavor, complementing the soft apple base beneath.

This cake is best served warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce for extra sweetness and creaminess. It’s a convenient dessert for gatherings or a simple treat since it requires minimal active preparation and uses pantry staples.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cans apple pie filling 21 ounces each
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice divided use
  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 ounces, or French vanilla
  • ½ cup pecans optional, chopped
  • ¾ cup butter melted, salted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x13-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Spread apple pie filling evenly in bottom of prepared pan. Sprinkle apple pie filling with ½ teaspoon apple pie spice and mix to combine.
  3. Evenly distribute the dry cake mix over the apple pie filling. Sprinkle the remaining ½ teaspoon apple pie spice over the dry cake mix. If you are using pecans, sprinkle them evenly over the dry cake mix as well.
  4. Pour melted butter over top, tilting pan to cover as much of the top with butter as possible.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until light golden brown, mostly dry on top and bubbly around edges.
  6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
